Alejandro Rosalen Joins Liverpool as First-Team Goalkeeping Coach Under Andoni Iraola

Liverpool have confirmed Alejandro Rosalen as their new first-team goalkeeping coach, marking the latest addition to Andoni Iraola's redesigned backroom staff. The Spanish coach joins the Reds following five years with Napoli, where he was instrumental in securing two Serie A titles. Rosalen replaces Xavi Valero, who departed after 12 months in his second spell at Anfield.

Rosalen's Record and Background

The 49-year-old brings extensive Italian football experience to Merseyside. At Napoli, Rosalen contributed to championship successes in 2022-23 and 2024-25, the latter representing the club's first top-flight title since 1990. Before his time in Naples, he spent eight years with Fiorentina, working across multiple managerial changes at the Serie A outfit.

Rosalen's career in football coaching began in the youth setup at Valencia, followed by a single season with Hungarian club Videoton. His appointment represents a significant departure from Iraola's initial staffing strategy, making him the first external hire not previously affiliated with Bournemouth, where Iraola spent the previous season.

Part of Broader Coaching Restructure

Rosalen becomes the fifth coaching addition to Iraola's ranks this summer. Four other appointments—Pablo de la Torre as assistant manager, Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper as first-team coaches, and analyst Tom Webber—were confirmed earlier in the transfer window. De la Torre, Elphick, Cooper, and Webber all worked previously with Iraola during his tenure at Bournemouth. Webber assumes the role vacated by Roderick van der Ham, the final member of former manager Arne Slot's backroom team to depart.
