Amanda Knox is launching a one-woman comedy show titled "Cartwheel" that explores her wrongful conviction through humor and vulnerability. The performance will debut at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, marking Knox's first major venture into stand-up comedy after spending the past decade writing memoirs, hosting a podcast, and advocating for criminal justice reform.

Knox, a resident of Vashon Island in Washington State, will perform early versions of "Cartwheel" locally on July 24 and 25 before taking the show to the Scottish festival. The performances are already sold out, underscoring significant public interest in how Knox is choosing to reclaim her narrative through a new medium.

From Memoir to the Stage

The journey into comedy represents a deliberate shift for Knox, who has previously addressed topics including police reform, media portrayal of women, and the human impact of wrongful convictions through writing and public speaking. When asked whether comedy had always appealed to her, Knox reflected on how public perception has shaped the way people relate to her story. She noted that despite being associated with tragedy and serious legal matters, she has maintained a lighthearted disposition since her school years, when she performed comedy and theatrical work. The creative process behind "Cartwheel" has been extensive. Knox deliberately chose comedy as a vehicle to discuss difficult experiences because of its unique storytelling capabilities. She explained that while vulnerability and honesty are effective approaches to discussing hardship, comedy adds an element of surprise and unexpected connections that activate emotions surrounding taboo subjects—creating space for audiences to process difficult material in ways other formats cannot.

Knox is also a mother, and the show addresses the challenge of explaining her past experiences to her young daughter.
