Andrew Crofts Joins Tottenham's Coaching Staff Under Roberto De Zerbi

Andrew Crofts has joined Tottenham Hotspur's coaching staff following a compensation agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion. The 42-year-old assistant head coach reunites with manager Roberto De Zerbi, under whom he previously worked at the south-coast club. Crofts will link up with Tottenham before the 2026-27 season.

The Brighton Connection

Crofts spent his entire club coaching career at Brighton, beginning in 2019 when he initially joined the academy structure. He progressed through the ranks to become the under-21 head coach before taking on a wider first-team role. His most significant moment came in September 2022, when he stepped into interim charge of the men's team following Graham Potter's departure to Chelsea—a position he held without taking charge of a match before De Zerbi's arrival that same month.

Under Fabian Hurzeler's management, Crofts secured a permanent position as assistant head coach. Upon his exit from Brighton, he expressed gratitude to club officials: "I'm incredibly grateful to Tony Bloom and Paul Barber for the trust, faith and support they've shown in me throughout my time here."

De Zerbi's Backroom Rebuild

De Zerbi's appointment at Tottenham prompted a comprehensive overhaul of the backroom team. Alongside Crofts, Spurs confirmed the appointments of Ali James as head of medical services, Tom Tombleson as head of athletic development, and Agostino Tibaudi as strength and conditioning coach. The manager's decision to bring Crofts reflects the value gained during their near two full seasons working together at Brighton, where Crofts provided continuity and local knowledge as De Zerbi built his Italian-influenced coaching structure.

Playing Career and International Experience

Before his coaching evolution, Crofts maintained a 13-year international career with Wales, earning 29 caps as a combative midfielder. He played in the Premier League for Norwich City and made 125 appearances across two spells at Brighton as a player. He obtained his UEFA Pro Licence—the top coaching qualification—in 2021. Crofts continues to work as part of Wales manager Craig Bellamy's coaching staff alongside his Tottenham role.
