Angus Gunn Emerges as Manchester United's Goalkeeper Target Following Nottingham Forest Exit

Manchester United is considering goalkeeper Angus Gunn as a potential signing after he was released by Nottingham Forest. The 30-year-old Scotland international represented his country in World Cup qualifiers against Haiti and Morocco, positioning him as an experienced option for the club's goalkeeping department.

United's interest in goalkeeping reinforcements stems from planned departures of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. Onana, 30, is expected to leave the club after two seasons, while Bayindir, 28, is anticipated to return to Turkey as Besiktas pursues the midfielder. Current number one Senne Lammels has established himself as the primary choice since his debut in October, but the club recognizes the need for depth ahead of Champions League participation next season.

Gunn represents one of two experienced candidates under consideration. Karl Darlow, 35, currently at Leeds United on a contract set to expire, has also attracted attention. Darlow made 22 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign, whereas Gunn was limited to a single outing for Forest, serving as third-choice goalkeeper behind Matz Sels and Stefan Ortega.

Connection Through the Coaching Staff

Gunn's pathway to Manchester United carries institutional weight through Jason Wilcox, now the club's director of football. Wilcox previously worked as a coach and head of the City academy when Gunn progressed through the youth system. The Scotland goalkeeper spent four years at his original club before departing for Norwich City, later moving to Nottingham Forest on a one-year contract last summer.

Beyond Gunn and Darlow, uncertainty surrounds goalkeeper Radek Vitek following his loan spell at Bristol City. The 23-year-old Czech Republic youth international is reportedly a target for Hull City, complicating decisions around whether United will loan or sell him permanently.
