Antoine Griezmann scored and provided an assist in his first competitive appearance for Orlando City, leading the Lions to a commanding 6-0 victory over Tampa Bay Rowdies in a friendly match. The French international, who departed Atlético Madrid as the club's all-time leading scorer, expressed his determination to deliver trophies for his new MLS franchise.

Griezmann's Debut Performance

Playing for just over an hour at Inter&Co Stadium, Griezmann demonstrated immediate impact in Interim Head Coach Martin Perelman's lineup. The midfielder-forward orchestrated play from an attacking role alongside Ivan Angulo and Martin Ojeda, operating in a fluid formation that frequently shifted to accommodate tactical adjustments. His opening contribution came via a setup for one of the team's six goals, while he also found the net himself during the dominant display.

Orlando dominated possession throughout the encounter, though the Lions' efficiency in front of goal improved dramatically as the match progressed. Five different players found the net for Orlando, with the Rowdies' own goal adding to the tally. Despite squandering numerous breakaway opportunities in the first half, the team's superior organization and movement eventually overwhelmed the visiting defense.

During an official unveiling event, Griezmann articulated his vision for the franchise and his personal motivations for joining MLS at age 35. He revealed that the league had been a long-term aspiration, describing an ambition he has held since his youth. The attacker credited Orlando's General Manager Ricardo Moreira for a comprehensive recruitment campaign that ultimately persuaded him to leave Europe.

"Here I am, very eager, and my goal is to win a trophy and make the whole city happy," Griezmann stated, adding that he arrived in optimal physical and mental condition to perform at the highest level.

Griezmann's résumé includes a 2018 FIFA World Cup victory with France, multiple Europa League titles with Atlético Madrid, and a record as France's all-time leading provider of assists. His decision to join Orlando represents one of the most significant roster additions in the franchise's MLS history since midfielder Kaká's arrival initiated the club's participation in the league in 2015.
