BBC Radio 1 Overhauls Daytime Schedule as Six Presenters Depart
BBC Radio 1 is undergoing significant programming changes with six presenters departing after tenure at the station.

BBC Radio 1 is implementing comprehensive schedule changes across weekday and weekend programming, with six established presenters departing and a wave of new talent stepping into prominent roles, effective from September. Major Presenter Changes
Rickie and Melvin are exiting Radio 1 after seven years on air, alongside Dean McCullough, Nat O'Leary, James Cusack, and Swarzy. Their departures will open multiple slots across the schedule. Rickie and Melvin stated that presenting on the station had been "an unforgettable experience" and expressed gratitude to the team and listeners.
The departures trigger a cascade of promotions and new appointments. Charlie Hedges and Jeremiah Asiamah will take over the Live Lounge Monday through Thursday from 10:30am to 1pm, bringing what they describe as "chaotic energy" to the programme. Asiamah reflected on the appointment as a personal milestone, recalling listening to the Live Lounge while commuting from college in 2017.
New Scheduling Arrangements
Mylo and Rosie, who emerged from Radio 1's presenter development initiative and previously worked at Pulse 1 in West Yorkshire, will anchor Early Breakfast from 4am to 7am on weekdays. The duo expressed elation at their appointment, describing it as the realization of a childhood ambition. Vicky Hawkesworth will be joined by Charley Marlowe for Friday to Sunday midmorning slots between 10:30am and 1pm, while Emil Franchi becomes Weekend Breakfast presenter.
Additional programming changes include Lauren Layfield hosting The Official Chart: First Look live from Birmingham each Sunday between 4pm and 7pm—marking the first Radio 1 show of its kind to originate from the city. GK Barry will host a six-week run beginning September 10 at 1pm, bringing her podcast experience to the network. Shanequa Paris and Oré Olukoga will present Life Hacks on Sunday evenings, followed by Sian Eleri's Chillest Show, while Alyx Holcombe's Indie Show moves to Tuesday late-night slots at 11pm.
