Bez Reveals Celebrity Gogglebox Stars Are Supplied Alcohol During Filming
Happy Mondays' Bez disclosed that Celebrity Gogglebox participants receive alcohol during filming sessions, unlike the standard show. It's a piece of p*ss.

Happy Mondays DJ Bez has revealed that Celebrity Gogglebox cast members are provided with alcohol during filming, a practice that differs from the standard version of the Channel 4 programme. The 62-year-old performer, who has appeared on the show alongside bandmate Shaun Ryder since July 2019, stated that drinking is essential for getting through the lengthy production process.
How the Show's Drinking Culture Works
Speaking at a festival event, Bez explained the mechanics of alcohol provision on Celebrity Gogglebox. According to the musician, production teams supply cast members with specific drinks to facilitate their participation. He mentioned that Jameson Irish Whiskey and Guinness are standard offerings, though the production has recently expanded to include lager options.
"You can only do that show when you're drunk. So they get you a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey, and they always get us Guinness. But we've been drinking their lagers recently, too. It's a piece of p*ss. We love it. You get paid for having a good laugh and getting pd with your mate watching the TV shows."
Bez emphasized that the experience revolves around entertainment and camaraderie rather than formal evaluation. He stressed that participants receive payment while enjoying beverages and watching television with colleagues, making the arrangement mutually beneficial for both cast and production.
Bez's Relationship with His Own Performances
Despite his extended tenure on Celebrity Gogglebox, Bez has never actually watched himself on screen. He acknowledged discomfort with hearing his own voice and speech patterns during broadcasts, describing the experience as deeply frustrating. His reluctance to review his own episodes reflects a common sentiment among performers regarding self-criticism and on-air presentation.
The Happy Mondays dancer, whose real name is Mark Berry, has continued expanding his television presence beyond Gogglebox. He recently appeared on the BBC's Celebrity MasterChef, reaching the semi-final stage before departing the culinary competition. His latest venture includes participation in ITV's Cooking With The Stars, where he will join television personalities and comedians in another reality-based entertainment format.
