Former Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home following a 13-hour open heart surgery procedure performed to address an enlarged aorta. The 33-year-old spent just five days in hospital before being cleared to leave, marking a faster recovery than anticipated following the complex operation.

The Procedure and Hospital Stay

Goldson underwent his second open heart surgery after medical scans revealed the need for intervention. The operation proved more extensive than his previous cardiac procedure in 2017, involving additional surgical work that left him with what he described as "a lot more bumps, bruises, cuts and holes" than his first operation nine years earlier. Despite the intensity of the 13-hour surgery, his medical team cleared him for discharge after a brief hospital stay.

The defender spent one night in intensive care following the operation, where he demonstrated remarkable resilience by walking along a corridor with a physiotherapist the next morning. He then moved to a high dependency unit for an additional night before being transferred to a standard ward. His rapid mobility recovery impressed both medical staff and his family as he worked with physiotherapy teams to regain strength and independence.

Recovery at Home and Family Support

Since returning home, Goldson has been managing his recovery with the support of his wife, whom he credited as his "superhero" for her constant presence throughout his hospital stay. He acknowledged that everyday tasks have become challenging during the initial recovery phase but expressed optimism about his progress. His plasters were recently removed, revealing a surgical scar slightly longer than the one from his 2017 operation.

The Englishman, who recently joined Apollon Limassol from Glasgow Rangers, has been transparent about his health journey through social media updates. Initially fearful about the surgery's impact on his career, Goldson consulted with leading cardiologists and surgeons who delivered encouraging news: medical clearance for a potential return to professional football, provided his recovery progresses successfully.
