Teokotai Jim, a 60-year-old lawn bowler from Cook Islands, carried her nation's flag at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, representing the most decorated athlete in her country's Games history. Jim competed in women's lawn bowls alongside her daughter Emily, continuing a multi-decade athletic career that began in 1998.

Record-Breaking Representation

Jim's selection as flag bearer reflects an extraordinary athletic achievement. Her fifth appearance at the Commonwealth Games surpasses any other Cook Islands athlete in the organization's history. Previous Games appearances took her to Delhi in 2010, Glasgow in 2014, Gold Coast in 2018, and Birmingham in 2022, where she competed with two of her daughters.

The decision to feature Jim at the opening ceremony underscores her significance to Cook Islands athletics. "It feels great to be here at the Games, and I thank Cook Islands for giving me this opportunity to represent again," Jim said. Her triples record shows consecutive national victories, alongside multiple runner-up finishes in fours competitions. At the South Pacific Games in Port Moresby in 2015, she won gold in women's singles and bronze in women's pairs, establishing herself as a medalist on the Pacific Games stage.
