Court Hears Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's Account of Balaclava-Clad Stalker Chase Near Norfolk Home

Westminster Magistrates' Court heard testimony from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor describing a confrontation with a man wearing a balaclava who chased him near his Sandringham estate. The incident occurred on 6 May as Mountbatten-Windsor walked his dogs, with Alex Jenkinson, 39, from Stowmarket, Suffolk, facing charges of causing the former duke to fear unlawful violence. Trial proceedings are set to commence on 21 December.

The Incident and Legal Proceedings

During the court hearing, Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram read portions of Mountbatten-Windsor's witness statement detailing the encounter. The former duke said he initially spotted a car he believed belonged to press photographers before his security detail drove past it. As they passed, a man wearing a balaclava face covering turned toward him. Mountbatten-Windsor described the individual as "out-of-place," and stated that after realizing his identity, the man began sprinting after his vehicle.

Suffolk Police is applying for a civil Stalking Protection Order against Jenkinson. The defendant denies the public order offence and has also pleaded not guilty to a separate charge involving threatening behaviour toward another man, Stephen Terry, in King's Lynn on 5 May. Jenkinson was absent from Wednesday's hearing after arriving with his dog, which his lawyer identified as a support animal due to his ADHD and homelessness. However, his legal representation conceded that no documentation exists to verify his medical condition or the animal's support status.

Bail Conditions and Background

Jenkinson remains on conditional bail with significant restrictions. He is prohibited from approaching Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral, Windsor, or Highgrove, and cannot enter Norfolk or contact Mountbatten-Windsor directly or indirectly. Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his royal title and dukedom in relation to his associations with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, now resides at Marsh Farm after leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing regarding those associations.
