Dame Mary Berry has reflected on her perspective on life and major decisions at her Oxfordshire home, revealing that at 91 years old, she and her husband Paul Hunnings opted to purchase mature plants rather than wait for smaller ones to grow. Garden Expansion and Family Living

The food writer and broadcaster, who has resided in Henley-on-Thames with her husband since 2019, explained the reasoning behind their decision to buy larger yew trees for their property. Rather than purchase smaller evergreens and wait years for them to reach the required height, the couple invested in approximately four-foot trees to reach the top of their tennis court netting. This pragmatic approach reflects the reality of ageing and the desire to enjoy the finished garden during their lifetime.

Berry and Hunnings relocated to Henley to be closer to family after downsizing from their previous Buckinghamshire home. The town's proximity to their social circle—only a 35-minute drive away—combined with its riverside location and walking opportunities, made it an attractive choice. Berry has previously noted that as they age, the ability to walk into the town centre without requiring a car would provide additional convenience.

Continued Public Presence and Gardening Passion

Despite stepping back from her role as a judge on the BBC's Great British Bake Off in 2016, when the programme relocated to Channel 4, Berry remains a familiar television presence. She joined the show when it launched in 2010 and judged alongside Paul Hollywood throughout her tenure. Her recent podcast appearance demonstrates her ongoing commitment to sharing expertise in both cooking and gardening, interests she has cultivated throughout her career.
