Derby County have announced the acquisition of left-back Charlie Taylor on a one-year deal following his release by Southampton. Taylor began his career at Leeds United, where he made 104 appearances before moving to Burnley in 2017. His tenure at Turf Moor proved substantial, spanning 220 matches and contributing to the club's promotion back to the Premier League in 2023. He subsequently joined Southampton in the top flight but struggled for consistent playing time, appearing just 12 times across two seasons before the club released him.

To rebuild match fitness and maintain competition experience, Taylor spent the previous season on loan at West Brom, where he featured in 26 to 28 Championship matches. This sustained run of appearances demonstrated his readiness to contribute at second-tier level and caught the attention of Derby's recruitment team.

The defender's career has encompassed substantial Premier League exposure, with 169 of his 400-plus appearances coming in England's top flight. He also represented England at youth level. His vast Championship experience—totaling more than 150 matches at the second tier—positions him as a valuable asset for Derby's campaign ahead.
