Philippine tennis star Alexandra Eala advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 Berlin Open by defeating world No. 8 Elina Svitolina with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. The result marks her second consecutive win over a top-10 ranked opponent in the span of 24 hours, establishing her as a formidable contender at the grass-court tournament.

Dominant Performance Against Svitolina

Eala controlled the match against the Ukrainian player, which lasted one hour and 23 minutes. She dominated the opening set by establishing a 4-1 lead early and maintaining her advantage throughout. In the second set, Eala demonstrated composed execution by breaking Svitolina's serve three times to reach 5-2 before her opponent mounted a comeback attempt. The Filipino player ultimately closed the match on serve, preventing Svitolina from mounting a full recovery.

Her performance against Svitolina came immediately after she eliminated world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals. The back-to-back victories over players ranked in the top 10 highlight Eala's elevated play on grass courts during the tournament. She entered the competition as a wildcard player, making her results particularly noteworthy.

Noskova advanced to the semifinals by defeating Spanish player Paula Badosa. Aware of the previous loss, Eala acknowledged the difficulty of facing Noskova. "She's a big hitter, and she's young, but she has a lot of experience, and she's very powerful," Eala stated.
