Elizabeth Banks Assembles Star-Studded Cast for Apple TV Comedy Series About Divorce and Reinvention

Apple TV is expanding the cast of an untitled half-hour comedy series starring Elizabeth Banks, with Hamish Linklater, Michelle Buteau, and Simu Liu joining the ensemble in recurring roles. The addition brings the project's announced talent to eight performers, with production slated for Los Angeles this year.

Plot and Central Characters

The series follows Heidi, a character portrayed by Banks, as she attempts to build a fulfilling second chapter for herself and her children following a difficult divorce. The narrative takes an unexpected turn when Heidi becomes responsible for coordinating her father's romantic activities within a retirement community, forcing her into an unlikely partnership with her father's girlfriend's perpetually unattached son.

Linklater has been cast as Evan, Heidi's ex-husband. Buteau will play Melissa, described as a talented advertising executive. Liu takes on the role of Dr. Zhou, a physician who provides medical care to Heidi's son.

Expanded Ensemble

The project reunites Banks with established television talent. Ted Danson portrays Heidi's father, while Katey Sagal and Rob Delaney join the cast in previously announced roles. Additional cast members include Jared Goldstein and Spencer Moss, both of whom have appeared in recent streaming and network television productions.

The series originates from creators Liz Heldens and Matt Ward, who serve as showrunners and executive producers. Jonathan Krisel, known for directing pilots on comedy series including "Adults" and "English Teacher," will direct the pilot episode and contribute as executive producer. Banks executive produces through her Brownstone Productions banner alongside Max Handelman and Krissy Wall.

Apple TV has tapped 20th Television to produce the untitled comedy. Additional executive producers include Quinn Haberman through Selfish Mermaid and Jason Winer and Jon Radler through Small Dog Picture Company. The production begins filming in Los Angeles during the current year, though an official premiere date remains undisclosed.
