An arrest warrant has been issued for a 29-year-old daycare worker in Evansville, Indiana, following allegations that she confined a 5-year-old child in a closet on multiple occasions and struck the child with a broom handle. Surveillance video from the facility corroborated the child's account, and a second employee was arrested for failing to report the abuse under state mandatory reporting requirements.
The Allegations and Evidence
The alleged abuse took place at Kindergate Developmental Child Care Center during the month of May. According to police records, the 5-year-old victim reported being locked in a closet on two separate occasions, struck with a broom, denied food during the day, and not provided a blanket during naptime. During the investigation, law enforcement obtained video surveillance that confirmed these claims, showing the employee placing the child in a closet multiple times, hitting the child with the broom, and subsequently leaving the facility to visit a liquor store.
The accused employee, identified as Tashshavviyon Stinson, has been a 10-year veteran at the daycare. Police records indicate that Stinson had a documented history of alcohol-related issues. As of the latest reports, Stinson had not yet appeared at the Vanderburgh County Jail following the warrant issuance.
Coworker Charged With Failure to Report
A 47-year-old colleague, Andrea Williamson, was arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent after authorities determined she was present in the classroom during the incident but failed to report it to authorities. Under Indiana law, childcare workers are mandated reporters who must immediately notify police or child protective services when they witness or suspect abuse. Williamson posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 28. Evansville Police Sergeant Anthony Aussieker emphasized that the mandatory reporting requirement leaves no room for discretion: workers cannot delay reporting while deciding whether to intervene themselves.
