Florida State Baseball Season Ends After St. John's Hits Grand Slam in Regional Final

No. 10 Florida State baseball concluded its season with a 5-4 defeat to fourth-seeded St. John's on Monday at Dick Howser Stadium, ending the Seminoles' bid for a third consecutive super regional appearance. Adam Agresti's two-run grand slam in the fifth inning proved decisive as St. John's swept the Tallahassee Regional with back-to-back victories over FSU.

How the Game Unfolded

Florida State built an early 2-0 advantage through the fourth inning. Cal Fisher contributed a solo home run in the third, while Brody DeLamielleure added a two-out RBI single in the fifth to maintain the lead. Peyton Manca made his third start of the regional, allowing no runs through 3+ innings with three strikeouts.

The momentum shifted dramatically in the bottom of the fifth when St. John's loaded the bases off FSU reliever John Abraham. With two outs, Agresti sent his 19th home run of the season over the center field wall on Abraham's 41st pitch, swinging the game decisively in favor of the Red Storm. A fielding error and consecutive wild pitches from Kevin Mebil extended St. John's advantage to 5-2 through six innings.

Florida State mounted a late rally. Fisher hit his second home run of the regional in the ninth to bring the Seminoles within one run at 5-4. DeLamielleure stepped to the plate with a runner on and two outs, but grounded out to end the game, stranding the tying run on base. St. John's pitcher Victor Frederick earned the save, allowing only Fisher's late shot while recording the final out of the regional.

Path to the Final

Florida State advanced to the championship game by winning twice in the loser's bracket. The Seminoles defeated Coastal Carolina 2-1 in a marathon game delayed by weather, then outlasted Northern Illinois in extra innings to force the decisive matchup against St. John's, whom they had lost to in an earlier pool game.
