Four Celebrities Will Compete Against Gladiators in BBC Special

The BBC has confirmed four celebrity contestants will step into the Gladiators arena to face off against the show's champions in an upcoming special. AJ Odudu, Chris Ramsey, George Clarke, and Sara Pascoe will compete through fan-favourite events including Duel, Unleash, and Powerball before the climactic Eliminator showdown. The celebrity special will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year, produced by Hungry Bear Media and MGM Alternative UK, a division of Amazon MGM Studios.

The Celebrity Lineup

AJ Odudu, who currently hosts Big Brother, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity. "I am stepping inside the TV to do the show I wanted to do as a kid, it's so exciting," she said. Chris Ramsey, a long-time fan of the original series, acknowledged the physical demands ahead. "As someone who religiously watched Gladiators as a kid, it's beyond incredible to be taking part in the show myself. However, a large part of me does wish it could have been while I was in my 20's and not 40," he commented, adding that months of physiotherapy would likely follow.

George Clarke, who recently appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, joked about the tight-fitting arena costumes required for competition. Sara Pascoe described the celebrity special as "the ideal opportunity for me to live out my childhood dream of humiliating myself on national television." The four contestants will navigate the iconic Sheffield arena under the direction of returning hosts Bradley and Barney Walsh, a father-and-son duo who will oversee the challenges designed to test speed, strength, and charisma.

The one-hour special represents the latest iteration of the revived Gladiators format, which has proven popular with audiences in recent seasons. The show's events are designed to eliminate contenders progressively, with the final Eliminator serving as the ultimate test between celebrity and Gladiator.
