HiLight: A New Notification Approach

The standout feature for the Pixel 11 series is HiLight, a branded name for what was previously referred to as "Pixel Glow." This system uses a colored LED light positioned in the camera bar to convey notifications without requiring users to pick up their phone. According to official marketing materials, HiLight activates when the device sits face-down on a surface, discreetly illuminating when calls arrive from favorite contacts or when the Gemini assistant needs attention.

The technology replaces the traditional camera flash with a dynamic, color-changing system. Google has already showcased the feature in promotional videos released weeks before the official announcement, revealing the small light fixture in the camera module. The company has not disclosed additional capabilities beyond contact notifications and Gemini integration at this stage.

The Pixel 11 series will consist of four phones, maintaining Google's recent strategy for the flagship range. Design changes appear minimal compared to the Pixel 10, with the company maintaining familiar aesthetics while introducing the HiLight system as the primary visual novelty.
