Helen Hunt has joined Kenneth Branagh and Bill Pullman in the Royal Shakespeare Company's adaptation of Chekhov's Cherry Orchard.

The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced the complete cast for its production of The Cherry Orchard, featuring Helen Hunt as Madame Ranyevskaya, Kenneth Branagh as Lopakhin, and Bill Pullman as Gaev. The adaptation, created by Olivier Award-winning playwright Laura Wade and directed by RSC co-Artistic Director Tamara Harvey, will debut at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon on July 21, with performances continuing through August 29.
Cast and Creative Team
The ensemble brings together established performers and rising talent for Chekhov's final play. Joining the three leads are Chumisa Dornford-May as Anya, Alfred Enoch as Trofimov, Esther Smith as Varya, and Sophie Stone as Sharlotta. Additional cast members include Michael Elwyn as Firs, Guy Henry as Pishchik, Rob Alexander-Adams, Amber Gadd, Julian Moore-Cook, Erin Siobhan Hutching, and Andy Rush. Many performers are making their RSC debuts or returning to the company after recent collaborations.
Director Tamara Harvey highlighted the significance of the assembly, noting that Branagh returns to the RSC after a three-decade absence. The production design is helmed by Anna Fleischle, with Aideen Malone handling lighting design. Composer Laura Rossi created original compositions, while Claire Windsor manages sound design. Movement direction comes from Annie-Lunnette Deakin-Foster, with Alex Payne overseeing fight choreography.
Wade's Adaptation and Production Details
Laura Wade's reimagining of the Russian classic builds on her track record with period and contemporary drama, including previous works such as Posh, Rivals, The Constant Wife, Home, I'm Darling, and others. The production runs for 51 days at the Swan Theatre, opening officially on July 21 after previews beginning July 10. This staging marks a significant moment for the RSC, bringing together international talent alongside established British performers for one of theater's most frequently adapted works.
