Tunisia have appointed veteran manager Herve Renard following the sacking of Sabri Lamouchi, marking the first time in World Cup history that a coach has been dismissed after just one match. The North African side suffered a 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening Group F fixture, prompting the Tunisian Football Association to terminate Lamouchi's contract by mutual agreement. Lamouchi's removal after a single game represents an unprecedented event in World Cup competition. While Tunisia sacked manager Henryk Kasperczak during their 1998 campaign following poor results across two matches, and South Korea dismissed Cha Bum-kun under similar circumstances that same year, no nation had previously terminated a manager's contract following defeat in their opening fixture. He remains the only manager to have won the Africa Cup of Nations with two different teams—leading Zambia to a fairy-tale triumph over Ivory Coast in 2012 before guiding Ivory Coast to the trophy three years later. His early career trajectory was unconventional; before securing his first coaching position at SC Draguignan in southeastern France, Renard worked as a cleaner while studying for his coaching badges, waking at 2:30 a.m. to collect rubbish from apartment blocks before training sessions in the afternoon.
