The storm is advancing westward across the Pacific toward the Hawaiian Islands, with forecasters indicating an approach expected early next week. Cooler ocean waters east of Hawaii and intensifying wind shear are predicted to gradually weaken Fausto. The National Hurricane Center's modeling indicates the system will likely downgrade to tropical storm status by late Monday or early Tuesday as it encounters these hostile conditions. Forecasters assess the likelihood of Fausto remaining strong and tracking farther south across Hawaii as very low, with the storm expected to pass north of the islands as a weakening system.

Swells generated by tropical systems moving from east to west typically produce torrential mountain rainfall; however, surrounding dry air in this case should limit widespread flooding potential, though localized heavy precipitation remains possible. Additionally, swells from Fausto could generate life-threatening surf and rip tides in parts of southern California ahead of the storm's Hawaiian arrival.
