Iron Fire Utah Spreads Across Three Counties as Evacuations Continue
Iron Fire Utah has burned over 24,000 acres across Juab, Utah, and Tooele Counties with zero containment as of Monday.

A major wildfire in central Utah has consumed more than 24,000 acres across three counties with no containment reported, forcing evacuations in the town of Eureka and surrounding ranches. Extreme heat and drought conditions are accelerating the fire's spread, though officials report no primary homes have been destroyed as of Monday afternoon.

Fire Growth and Current Status
The Iron Fire ignited Friday evening and expanded dramatically, burning approximately 20,000 acres within just over 24 hours. The blaze now spans Juab, Utah, and Tooele Counties, roughly 70 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. Officials cite human activity as the cause, with investigations still underway.
Despite aggressive firefighting efforts, the fire maintained zero percent containment as of Monday. Officials noted that light fuel conditions surrounding the nearby town of Elberta could make future containment efforts more effective should flames reach that location. Wind patterns are pushing the fire eastward toward populated areas, prompting officials to place Elberta under "READY" status and advise residents to monitor developments closely.
Evacuations and Damage Assessment
Eureka, a town of approximately 1,000 residents, was evacuated along with nearby ranches. Residents remain displaced, though officials indicated they may be permitted to return within the next day or two as firefighters contain the blaze along the town's borders. Some outbuildings have been damaged or destroyed, but no primary residential structures have been lost—a development Governor Spencer Cox characterized as "pretty much a miracle" given the intensity of the threat at one point.
Regional Fire Danger and Weather Threats
The Iron Fire is one of six active wildfires burning across Utah at varying containment levels. Extreme heat blanketing the western United States, combined with severe drought conditions across much of Utah, Arizona, and Colorado, is creating dangerous fire conditions. The National Weather Service issued red-flag warnings for portions of neighboring Colorado due to gusty winds and low humidity. Additional wildfires in Arizona near Sedona have also prompted evacuations, burning approximately 300 acres of terrain near Oak Creek Canyon with residents still displaced as of the latest reports.
