Iron Maiden's First Festival Celebrates 50 Years With Immersive Fan Experience at Knebworth
Iron Maiden's inaugural Eddfest at Knebworth delivered a landmark celebration for the legendary British heavy metal band's 50-year history.

Iron Maiden's first-ever curated festival, held across two days at Knebworth, delivered far more than a victory lap for the iconic heavy metal band—instead creating an immersive celebration that drew 50,000 fans into what organizers described as a "full-on Maiden experience." The event combined headline performances with an extensive museum exhibition and themed entertainment zones dedicated to the band's five decades of touring history.
The Infinite Dreams Experience
The centerpiece of the festival grounds was "The Infinite Dreams Experience," an open-air exhibition featuring over 50 artifacts gathered from the band's archives, warehouses, personal collections, and the homes of longtime members. Items on display included the iconic pharaoh's head from the World Slavery Tour, Eddie's ray-gun from the 1986 Somewhere On Tour, the electric chair prop from The X-Factor album era, tank commander Eddie from the A Matter Of Life & Death Tour, the baphomet figure from Number Of The Beast, and the phantom organ from the Maiden England tour. Early-era memorabilia such as Paul Di'Anno's leather jacket from the 1980s also featured prominently, allowing fans to connect with their preferred eras of the band's evolution.
Manager Rod Smallwood explained the curatorial approach: organizers had systematically collected pieces representing nearly 50 years of Maiden history to create something distinctly different from a conventional festival experience. Fans gravitated toward exhibits from their favorite touring periods, creating an intergenerational connection across decades of the band's output.
Maidenville and Supporting Acts
Beyond the museum, festival-goers accessed "Maidenville," a dedicated entertainment zone featuring Eddie's Dive Bar, a Maiden-themed tattoo parlor, the Unfair Funfair with Eddie-branded rides and games, and Eddie's Emporium. A secondary stage in Maidenville hosted Blaze Bayley, who fronted Iron Maiden from 1994 to 1999, performing material from his era with the band on the opening day.
The main stage lineup reflected a curated selection of rock and metal acts. The Almighty and Airbourne opened proceedings with pub rock energy, followed by The Hu, whose Mongolian folk metal sound impressed both the crowd and the band themselves. The Darkness delivered a mixed set opening with a recent album cut before pivoting to classics from their debut Permission To Land, while incorporating a Led Zeppelin cover. Iron Maiden headlined the Saturday slot, performing their Run For Your Lives tour show to conclude the festival.
