Jill Scott Undertakes 388-Mile Challenge Across England for Sport Relief
Former Lioness Jill Scott will undertake a demanding 388-mile cycle and run across England from Wembley to Sunderland for Sport Relief.

Former England footballer Jill Scott will embark on a five-day, 388-mile cycle and marathon challenge spanning from Wembley Stadium in London to the Stadium of Light in Sunderland for Sport Relief. The initiative, beginning Monday and concluding Friday, aims to raise funds for grassroots sports programmes that provide safe spaces and community support for young people and vulnerable groups.
The Challenge Route and Personal Connection
Scott's journey will route through key locations tied to her professional career, including stops at Aston Villa, Everton, Manchester City, and Bishop Auckland FC Ladies, where her football journey began. The northbound path also encompasses Birmingham, Liverpool, and Manchester before reaching the North East, a region Scott describes as home. Along the way, she will meet individuals supported by Sport Relief-funded projects to understand the direct impact of sports initiatives on individuals and communities.
The 161-cap England international reflected on her own childhood reliance on coaches and teachers who offered access to football through youth clubs. "I was so lucky that I was offered safe spaces to play football and incredible teachers and coaches who I could trust," Scott stated, emphasising the critical role these institutions played in her path to professional football.
Funding Impact and Community Focus
At least 50 percent of donations raised through Scott's Coming Home Challenge will directly fund Sport for Change projects, supporting partners including The Running Charity, Street Games, and The Bike Project. These initiatives use football, running, cycling, and boxing to create safe community spaces, particularly for young people experiencing loneliness or disconnection. Scott highlighted this purpose: "A lot of young people say they feel lonely, they feel disconnected. That's definitely something that Sport Relief really do help with – giving kids a sense of belonging, a purpose."
Scott urged the public to support the campaign, noting that without access to green spaces and youth clubs, many young people would never discover their potential. Her challenge represents a return to grassroots football and community support, areas she credits with transforming her life and enabling her role in England's Euro 2022 victory.
