Jonathan Majors Returns to Film in Controversial Daily Wire Action Thriller

Jonathan Majors is returning to cinema in Run Hide Fight: Infidels, a Daily Wire action film arriving September 16 that has already attracted significant controversy over its political themes. The project marks the actor's first major studio release in three years following a 2023 domestic violence conviction.

The Film and Its Premise

Majors plays Clayton Saunders, a retired Delta Force officer who must defend a liberal college when radical Islamic terrorists hijack a pro-Palestine student encampment and attempt to impose what the film describes as "barbaric Sharia law." Alongside students and a security guard, Saunders fights back against the attackers, with one trailer moment showing him shooting a vehicle and declaring, "That's the American way."

The film serves as a sequel to The Daily Wire's 2020 thriller of the same name, though it features an entirely new cast. Kyle Rankin returns as writer and director, drawing inspiration from 1980s and 1990s action films like Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers, which centered on groups of teenagers defending against invading forces.

Backlash and Criticism

Since its teaser emerged five weeks before the trailer release, the project has drawn sharp criticism for what reviewers characterize as xenophobic and Islamophobic content. One Los Angeles Times critic called the premise a recycled approach that "rehashes 40-year-old tropes while invoking conspiracy theories of Muslims bringing sharia law to America, because outrage is cheap to produce and easy to monetize."

The production itself faced additional challenges. During filming, Majors and co-star JC Kilcoyne fell through an unsecured window—an incident that escalated broader safety concerns. The accident prompted IATSE members to stage a labor work stoppage over safety standards on set.

Majors' Career Trajectory

The actor's comeback attempt reflects his effort to rebuild his career after a July 2023 conviction on one count of reckless assault involving his former girlfriend. Following the conviction, Marvel Studios removed him from his role as Kang in the broader Marvel universe, and most major studios distanced themselves from the actor. His previous projects—including Creed III, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the HBO series Lovecraft Country—had positioned him as an emerging talent before the conviction derailed his trajectory.

Ben Shapiro and The Daily Wire are producing Run Hide Fight: Infidels alongside Dallas Sonnier's Bonfire Legend. Additional producers include Travis Mills, Lillian Campbell, and Sydney Aucreman. The film's release on the subscription platform Daily Wire+ represents a significant departure from traditional theatrical distribution for a major star vehicle.
