Kaylee Hottle, Deaf Actress from Godzilla Films, Dies in Maryland Car Accident at 18

Kaylee Hottle, a deaf actress recognized for playing Jia in the Godzilla film franchise, died in a car accident in Maryland. Her father, Joshua Hottle, announced the tragedy through a Facebook livestream in American Sign Language, revealing that his daughter's heart stopped during transport to the hospital. The incident claimed the life of the young actress who had appeared in two major monster films and built a career beginning with commercial work at age nine.

Joshua Hottle disclosed that he was in Texas when authorities contacted him about the collision. A subsequent call informed him that Kaylee had suffered cardiac arrest en route to medical care. In his nearly 23-minute livestream announcement, Joshua explained that he would be traveling to Maryland to claim his daughter's body, describing the trip as one he never wanted to make.

Kaylee, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, came from a multi-generational deaf family. Her early work in the industry included a public service announcement for Glide, a live video messaging platform widely used within the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. This appearance came when she was just nine years old, launching what would become a notable acting career in mainstream productions.

Film and Television Work

Kaylee gained significant recognition in 2021 when she portrayed Jia, a deaf teenager who communicates with King Kong using sign language, in "Godzilla vs. Kong." Her character lived on Skull Island alongside Rebecca Hall's character Dr. Ilene Andrews. She reprised the role three years later in "Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire," cementing her place in the franchise. Beyond the monster films, Kaylee also appeared in the "Magnum P.I." reboot series, playing a character named Joon in a season four episode.
