Love Island 2026 Premiere Airs Tonight with Historic Format Change and Surprise Villa Twist
Love Island 2026 airs on ITV2 tonight with 12 new contestants and a major format shift that executives describe as a risk.

Love Island 2026 launches on ITV2 this evening with 12 new contestants and a television first: the series begins at night instead of during daylight hours. Host Maya Jama will introduce a secret twist to rock the villa just hours after the initial coupling ceremony, marking a deliberate departure from the show's established format that producers hope will energise the competition.

Opening Night Format Shake-Up
The evening premiere represents a significant production shift. Traditionally, Love Island islanders arrive at the villa during daytime hours, but this year's opening reverses that entirely. ITV confirmed the change through an official statement, with executive producer Lewis Evans highlighting the experimental nature of the decision. "We're doing something that we've never done before in the history of Love Island," Evans told press. "We're going to take a big risk and we hope it pays off."
The timing change sets the stage for what Maya Jama will deliver once the initial islanders have coupled up following their first meeting. According to reports, the host will arrive at the villa entrance to announce a twist designed to "completely rock the villa" — details of which remain undisclosed until broadcast.
The 2026 Cast
Twelve singles from across the United Kingdom and Ireland are entering the villa. The line-up includes a primary school teacher, a student, a model, a real estate videographer, a quantity surveyor and DJ, a business owner, a detective, a nurse, an electrician, and a fashion business owner. Names confirmed include Sean, Mica, Lorenzo, Robyn, Ellie, Samraj, Lola, Angelista, and Samuel, among others.
Islanders have outlined their romantic criteria during pre-show interviews. Samuel is seeking "someone classy, mature, blonde, fun, and someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously," while acknowledging he's never competed for romantic attention before. Lola expressed a desire to avoid drama despite enjoying it as a viewer, stating she's "really looking for love" and hopes to find "someone who is actually the love of my life, like obsessed with me kind of thing." Ope prioritises "energy, vibes" and compatibility with his sense of humour, while ruling out "negative energy" and those uninterested in enjoyment.
