Manchester City Signs 17-Year-Old Jeremy Monga from Leicester City for £10 Million

Manchester City have completed the signing of 17-year-old winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City in a deal worth £10 million plus performance-related add-ons, the club confirmed. Monga, who turned 17 on Friday, has agreed a five-year contract extending through the summer of 2031 and becomes new head coach Enzo Maresca's second summer acquisition after the £116 million arrival of Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

The Player's Remarkable Trajectory

Monga's ascent through professional football has been exceptional for his age. The Coventry-born winger made his Premier League debut against Newcastle United in April 2025 aged 15 years and 271 days, ranking him among the third-youngest players ever to appear in England's top division. He made 37 senior appearances for Leicester across all competitions during the 2025-26 season, including seven Premier League outings, contributing one goal and two assists across his 30 competitive matches.

The England Under-19 international has already set Championship records. At 16 years and 34 days, he became Leicester's youngest player to start a match, and three days later scored against Preston to become the Championship's youngest goalscorer, surpassing a record previously held by Jude Bellingham. Monga joined Leicester's youth academy at age eight, having developed through their pathway before breaking into senior football.

A Strategic Appointment

The transfer unites Monga with Maresca, who guided Leicester to the Championship title in 2023-24 before moving to Manchester City. Arsenal had also pursued the teenager, but City's pursuit proved decisive. Monga acknowledged the club's appeal in his statement, highlighting the pathway for academy graduates like Phil Foden and Nico O'Reilly. City's director of football Hugo Viana described him as an exciting prospect whose development the club is committed to supporting at the elite level.
