The Los Angeles County Public Health Department warns that anyone present at the theme park between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. that day should confirm their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms.

Exposure Timeline and Symptoms

The infected individual remained at the park for the entire span, creating extended opportunities for viral transmission through the air and contaminated surfaces. Measles spreads when an infected person breathes, talks, coughs, or sneezes—virus particles can linger in the air and on surfaces for many hours after the person leaves. Health officials note that an infected person can transmit measles up to four days before a rash appears and up to four days after it develops.

People who were present at Universal Studios Hollywood should watch for measles symptoms between seven and 21 days after exposure. Early signs include fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, followed by a distinctive rash that begins on the face and spreads downward across the body. Complications can be severe, particularly for unvaccinated young children and pregnant individuals, ranging from pneumonia and brain inflammation to hospitalization and death.

The California Department of Public Health reports that measles cases have doubled compared to the prior year, reflecting a nationwide trend.
