NBC Debuts WNBA Sunday Prime-Time Basketball as Fever Face Aces with Clark's Return

The WNBA launches its first prime-time Sunday night broadcast on NBC, featuring the Indiana Fever against the defending-champion Las Vegas Aces. Star guard Caitlin Clark is expected to return from a back injury that sidelined her for one game. The contest airs at 8 p.m. CT at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas on July 12.

Historic Broadcasting Milestone

The matchup represents a watershed moment for women's professional basketball in the United States. This marks the first regular-season WNBA game to air on a Sunday evening through a traditional broadcast network in prime time. NBC's coverage includes a studio crew led by Hall of Famers Cheryl Miller and Sue Bird, alongside host Maria Taylor, positioned on-site rather than at the network's Connecticut headquarters.

The broadcast is part of NBC's broader commitment to the league, which secured a $2.2 billion, 11-year media rights deal in 2024. The network will air 22 WNBA games this season, including Sunday prime-time matchups and the complete postseason coverage through the Finals in October.

Clark's Status and Team Performance

Clark, the former Iowa standout, is anticipated to receive expanded playing time after a brief recovery period. She appeared in Indiana's recent loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on July 8 while operating under a 16-minute restriction, contributing 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. The guard expressed hope that her minutes allocation could increase to 25 minutes for the Sunday contest against Las Vegas.

The Fever defeated Las Vegas 84-69 in their first matchup earlier in the month, a game in which both Clark and Aces star A'ja Wilson sat out due to injury. Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers in that contest with 27 points. Indiana enters the rematch having won their most recent game against Phoenix Mercury, 92-89, without Clark in the lineup.
