Norway Team Sick Before England World Cup Quarterfinal Clash in Miami
Norway team sick with multiple players battling a spreading illness bug ahead of their historic first World Cup quarterfinal against England.

Norway's preparations for their first-ever World Cup quarterfinal have been disrupted by a spreading sickness bug affecting numerous squad members and staff. Manager Stale Solbakken has expressed concern over coughing and respiratory issues scattered throughout the traveling group of over 50 people ahead of Saturday's clash against England in Miami.

Illness Spreads Through Camp
The health crisis emerged following Norway's stunning 2-1 victory over Brazil on Sunday, which secured their historic quarterfinal berth. Striker Jorgen Strand Larsen missed the opening group match with a fever, while full-back Marcus Holmgren Pedersen sat out the Brazil game due to similar illness. Solbakken himself was captured on camera coughing heavily during media interactions, highlighting the toll the tournament has taken on the organization.
When addressing reporters, Solbakken acknowledged the widespread nature of the problem while offering perspective on a large traveling party. "We've really only had Jorgen who has had a fever. But then there's been a bit of coughing and rasping evenly, scattered throughout," he explained. "But there's air conditioning, flights, changing rooms and all that. We're over 50 people so it would be strange if one or the other didn't come."
Travel Schedule Compounds Physical Toll
Norwegian media outlet Dagbladet has reported that the relentless travel schedule across the United States has significantly contributed to the squad's physical and mental exhaustion. Since arriving in America, Norway has maintained Greensboro as their base while making multiple trips for matches. The group traveled to Boston twice during group play and journeyed to New Jersey for their Senegal fixture. They then traveled to Dallas to face Ivory Coast before returning to New Jersey for the Brazil match, with Miami now awaiting them for the weekend.
Solbakken indicated that Pedersen's condition reflects the cumulative strain on younger players. "I think, without being a doctor, that it's a combination of the boy being young, he's come to the World Cup and thought, 'I'm going to be a backup for Julian'. He's had two games and played great, got a lot of impressions, his head is full, his body is full of impressions, and the system is collapsing a bit," the manager stated.
England Preparing Under Different Circumstances
Erling Haaland, Norway's top scorer with seven goals, secured his team's passage to the quarterfinals with a brace in the Brazil victory. However, England will approach Saturday's contest from a position of relative rest, having recently defeated Mexico 3-2 at altitude. The English squad has secured several days to recover and prepare before the Miami matchup, though they face their own fitness challenges with defender Reece James ruled out through hamstring injury.
