Oliver Glasner Joins Nottingham Forest with Three-Year Deal to Restore Stability
Oliver Glasner has joined Nottingham Forest on a three-year contract as the club's fifth managerial appointment in less than 12 months.
Nottingham Forest has appointed Oliver Glasner as manager on a three-year deal, tasking the Austrian with restoring stability after four managerial changes in 12 months. Glasner, 51, departs Crystal Palace where he secured FA Cup and Europa Conference League honours, and will begin his tenure with a home Premier League fixture against Leeds on 22 August. His arrival marks an attempt to end a cycle of managerial upheaval that has destabilised the club since September.
A Club in Need of Direction
Nottingham Forest's managerial carousel began when Nuno Espirito Santo cited relationship breakdown with the hierarchy. Ange Postecoglou followed but lasted only 39 days before dismissal after a Chelsea defeat, without even conducting a final post-match press conference. Sean Dyche managed 114 days in the role, while Vitor Pereira was informed of his termination just two minutes before a contractual clause allowing Forest to exit his agreement expired in June.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis, determined to break this pattern, reportedly held persuasive discussions with Glasner over a seafood dinner in Athens. Glasner described Marinakis as possibly the only person equally ambitious as himself, and both committed to a three-year arrangement as a foundation for success. The manager will oversee a pre-season friendly at Notts County before the Leeds encounter, with hopes of integrating new signings including midfielder Xaver Schlager on a free transfer from RB Leipzig and potential club-record signing Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham.
Building European Ambitions
Forest narrowly avoided relegation last season while reaching the Europa League semi-finals, a taste of continental football Glasner believes can motivate further progress. He acknowledged that establishing new habits and tactical approaches requires three to six months to yield visible results, rejecting any notion of instant transformation. The club lost midfielder Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, necessitating recruitment to strengthen the squad. Glasner's appointment signals an investment in long-term project rather than short-term fixes, with European qualification positioned as a realistic near-term goal rather than immediate silverware.
