Olwethu Makhanya Completes Move to Rangers from Philadelphia Union

Rangers have secured the signature of centre-back Olwethu Makhanya from Philadelphia Union in a move valued at approximately £3 million, with the 22-year-old South African international agreeing to a four-year contract that includes a one-year extension option. The defender becomes the eighth player to arrive at Ibrox during the summer transfer window under manager Derek McInnes, as the Glasgow club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the new Scottish Premiership campaign.

The Transfer Details

Makhanya brings significant experience from his time in Major League Soccer, where he made 53 appearances for the Philadelphia Union after establishing himself in the team's first-team setup last year. The South African international was recently included in his country's 2026 World Cup squad, though he did not feature during the tournament. His move to Scotland represents a significant step in his career, marking his first experience playing professional football outside North America.
