OnePlus Exits North American and European Markets as Parent Company Oppo Restructures Global Operations
OnePlus is withdrawing from North American and European markets as parent company Oppo consolidates resources across its mobile divisions.

OnePlus, the smartphone brand that rose to prominence as a "flagship-killer" alternative to Apple and Samsung, is retreating from North America and Europe, according to multiple reports. Parent company Oppo is consolidating operations under its subsidiary brands, with OnePlus staff in these regions transitioning to Oppo or Realme roles. The restructuring represents a dramatic reversal for a company that once defined itself by delivering premium performance at lower price points.
The Restructuring and Workforce Changes
Verified reports indicate that OnePlus has conducted layoffs across multiple regions over recent months, with staff reductions occurring between March and June. An anonymous former employee confirmed that the entire New York City office was eliminated, describing the decision as made "from the top" with no input from affected teams. Meanwhile, Realme, another Oppo subsidiary, is exiting the Chinese market entirely while expanding in Nordic regions including Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland.
Oppo provided limited explanation for the moves, stating that the restructuring aims to "consolidate resources and enhance global product strategy synergy." The company emphasized that OnePlus' product roadmap in China remains unchanged, though the status of the Indian market—historically significant for OnePlus—remains unclear. Questions about software updates and customer support for existing OnePlus devices have gone unanswered.
Decline of a Former Market Leader
OnePlus has lost considerable market share in recent years, now trailing Apple, Samsung, Motorola, and Google in global smartphone rankings. The brand's departure from Western markets signals a broader retreat as competition intensified and manufacturing costs rose. Industry data shows smartphone shipments across the sector declined, with Oppo itself experiencing a 4.3 percent drop in shipments during the second quarter.
The company's withdrawal raises unresolved questions about the future of OxygenOS, OnePlus' proprietary Android interface. Rumors suggest it may be replaced with Oppo's ColorOS, though neither company has confirmed whether existing devices would receive such updates. OnePlus declined to comment on the restructuring, and Nothing—the smartphone company founded by former OnePlus cofounder Carl Pei in 2020—similarly declined to provide statement.
