Palworld 1.0 Launches This Week—Developer Advises Players Whether to Start Fresh

Palworld's full 1.0 release arrives July 10, bringing sweeping gameplay overhauls, new content, and 27 pages of patch notes. Developer Pocketpair has recommended that existing players start fresh, though saves can transfer forward for those who prefer to continue their progress.

Release Timing and Official Guidance

Pocketpair has narrowed the launch window to approximately 12:30pm Japan time on July 10. Communications director John Buckley clarified in a Discord post that this is an estimate rather than a confirmed exact time. For UK players, this translates to around 4:30am on July 10, while North American audiences will see the launch the evening of July 9—11:30pm Eastern Time and 8:30pm Pacific Time.

On the question of whether to wipe existing saves, Buckley presented both options. "Players can continue their existing saves if they wish, as we want to respect the time and effort you have put in," he wrote. However, he added: "due to the large number of changes to the game, including overhauls to mechanics and new content, we believe that starting a new character will give you the best experience of Palworld."

Scale of Changes and Game Evolution

Since launching into early access in January 2024, Palworld has grown into one of gaming's major successes. The game combined creature collection, base building, survival crafting, and real-time combat into a formula that resonated across Steam, Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation 5. The 1.0 release represents a culmination of refinements and expansions accumulated over that period.

The patch notes will span 27 pages, indicating substantial revisions across mechanics, systems, and content. Beyond mechanical changes, Pocketpair has continuously added new creatures, expanded the open world, and introduced fresh survival systems that deepen the gameplay loop. The developer emphasized that these changes are significant enough to recommend experiencing them with a fresh character, though the choice ultimately rests with individual players.

Palworld's trajectory has been accompanied by ongoing legal considerations. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair, seeking damages and an injunction. A ruling is expected later this year. Despite comparisons drawn between Palworld's creatures and Pokémon designs, the game has maintained strong player engagement and an "Overwhelmingly Positive" Steam rating heading into its full launch.
