Patrick Grant Praises Exceptional Talent on New Series of Great British Sewing Bee
Patrick Grant revealed his emotional reaction to an exceptionally talented contestant on the current series of The Great British Sewing Bee.

Patrick Grant, judge on the BBC's The Great British Sewing Bee, has described being moved to tears by one contestant's exceptional talent on the current series. Speaking on This Morning, Grant revealed that both he and co-judge Esme Young were deeply impressed by a competitor whose work surpassed anything they had previously encountered on the show.
Grant shared his reaction during a Wednesday appearance on the ITV daytime programme, where he discussed the calibre of this year's 12 contestants competing to become Britain's Best Amateur Sewer. When asked whether he draws inspiration from the competitors, Grant elaborated on his experience with the standout performer.
"I am inspired," Grant explained, describing how one contestant in particular had provoked a profound emotional response. "There is somebody in this series who has absolutely put goose pimples on me. The things that they produce are so extraordinary, they literally brought us to tears." He added that both he and Young had experienced multiple moments of genuine emotion while viewing the garments created, comparing the experience to the pottery wheel pottery moments captured on television.
Extraordinary Craftsmanship Recognized
Grant emphasised that the standard of amateur sewing showcased this series has reached remarkable heights. When co-host Alison Hammond noted that contestants are amateurs creating catwalk-quality garments, Grant concurred enthusiastically. "Some of the stuff they create is absolutely extraordinary, there's been some incredible moments," he confirmed. He concluded by stating that one competitor this year represents "the best person we've ever seen" on the programme since its revival.
New Format and Hosting Change
The current series marks a significant transition for the beloved sewing competition. Comedian, writer and actor Sophie Willan has taken over as host, replacing previous presenter Sara Pascoe, who departed after three series. The BBC commissioning editor praised Willan's "boundless enthusiasm and energy," noting she would bring a "unique spark to the sewing room" alongside the returning judges Grant and Young. The programme continues its Tuesday evening slot on BBC One at 8pm.
