Paula Badosa has reached her first final in nearly two years at the WTA 125 event in Bastad, defeating third-seeded Yulia Putintseva in commanding fashion to set up a championship match against Switzerland's Simona Waltert. The victory marks Badosa's return to title contention 705 days after her last triumph in Washington.

Dominant Semifinal Performance

The 28-year-old Spanish player dismantled Putintseva in just 66 minutes, winning 6-1, 6-2 to extend her perfect record at the tournament. Badosa has not dropped a single set during her run in Sweden, demonstrating the form that has carried her through the week. The Begur native continues her coaching partnership with Pol Toledo as she prepares for the final against the unseeded Swiss competitor.

Path to the Championship Match

Badosa entered Bastad ranked 119th in the world and has gained 32 ranking points with her semifinal victory. While the WTA 125 classification means this title would not count toward official WTA crown totals, the points remain valuable for her competitive ranking. Waltert earned her spot in the final by defeating Spanish player Kaitlin Quevedo 7-5, 6-2 in the other semifinal. No head-to-head record exists between Badosa and Waltert, meaning their championship clash will be their first career meeting. Quevedo, despite her loss, will ascend to the top 100 in the world rankings on Monday and will secure direct entry into the final major championship of the season.
