Pocket bully dog injures Jade Goody's son and grandmother in separate attacks

A pocket bully dog owned by Freddy Brazier has been seized by police following two violent attacks on family members within four days, leaving Brazier with a three-centimetre wound requiring hospital treatment. The incidents have raised fresh concerns about illegally bred dogs and their safety in domestic settings, coinciding with ongoing regulatory scrutiny of similar breeds.

The Attacks

The first incident occurred on July 16 when the dog, named Pablo, attacked Brazier's 68-year-old grandmother Jackiey Budden while she was alone at her home in Bermondsey, South London. A concerned neighbour heard screams and alerted emergency services. Both police and the fire brigade attended the scene, and no criminal charges were pursued at that time, despite Budden requiring medical attention for her injuries.

Four days later, the dog attacked again—this time more severely. When Brazier, 21, arrived to help his grandmother and remove the dog, he too was mauled. During the second assault, Pablo's teeth hooked into Brazier's arm, creating a three-centimetre wound that left him unable to feel sensation in his limb. Brazier initially attended accident and emergency but discharged himself due to waiting times. He returned the following day for more extensive treatment and spent approximately eight hours in hospital receiving significant care for the injury.

Police Action and Breed Concerns

Following the second attack, police seized Pablo and took the dog into kennels. Brazier now faces the prospect of never seeing the animal again, as the dog could potentially be destroyed. Neither his grandmother's home nor his father's residence are considered suitable environments for Pablo's return, leaving limited options for the dog's placement.

The seizure has renewed attention to the regulation of aggressive dog breeds in Britain. Pocket bullies are similar in classification to XL Bullies, which were outlawed following previous incidents. The repeated attacks by Pablo raise questions about breeding standards and the suitability of such animals for family environments, particularly given the breed's documented aggression patterns.

Brazier's Position

Despite his injuries, Brazier has expressed his desire to have Pablo returned. He described the dog as his "son" rather than a pet, emphasizing the emotional bond between them. However, his family's unwillingness to accommodate the dog in their homes presents a significant barrier to his wishes. The situation highlights the difficult conflict between attachment to an animal and public safety concerns in cases involving dangerous dogs.
