Salahdine Parnasse Signs with UFC, Makes Debut Against Dan Hooker at Paris Event

French lightweight Salahdine Parnasse has officially joined the UFC roster and will make his promotional debut in the main event at UFC Paris on September 5, facing lightweight veteran Dan Hooker. The 28-year-old's signing represents a significant moment for the promotion's European expansion, with Parnasse bringing considerable credentials from his years dominating regional and international competition outside the UFC.

The Deal and Negotiation

Parnasse's path to the UFC took longer than initially expected. In 2024, negotiations between the fighter and the promotion stalled after UFC offered terms that would have paid him significantly less than his existing contract with Polish-based KSW. The deal was reported to represent roughly 20 to 30 times less compensation than what Parnasse was earning abroad. Two years later, the UFC reconsidered its offer, willing to pay substantially more to secure the French fighter's services.

The timing of the improved offer coincides with Parnasse's elevated profile. Earlier this year, the fighter delivered a first-round knockout victory on the high-profile Netflix card featuring Rousey versus Carano, raising his stock considerably within MMA circles and likely prompting the promotion's willingness to meet his financial demands.

Parnasse's Background and Accomplishments

Parnasse began his professional MMA career in 2015 and rapidly progressed through the French regional scene. After compiling an undefeated record through his first eight professional fights, he captured the 100% Fight championship. His success attracted KSW's attention, and the promotion signed him in 2020. Within KSW, Parnasse established himself as one of Europe's most formidable lightweights, eventually holding simultaneous titles across two weight classes.

His KSW tenure included significant battles at multiple levels. Despite an early setback to Daniel Torres via first-round knockout in a featherweight title bout, Parnasse rebounded to reclaim that belt via five-round decision. He subsequently moved to lightweight, won the interim title against Sebastian Rajewski, and defeated Robert Ruchala by fourth-round TKO to become a two-division champion. Parnasse defended the lightweight belt four times, though he dropped a decision when competing at welterweight against Adrian Bartosiński.

Parnasse will face Dan Hooker, a 36-year-old New Zealand veteran ranked ninth in lightweight media rankings. Hooker won three consecutive fights between 2022 and 2024 but has dropped his last two bouts to top contenders Arman Tsarukyan and Benoit Saint Denis.
