Shane Richie Charged with Drink-Driving After Confrontation at Essex Petrol Station

EastEnders star Shane Richie has been charged with drink-driving following an altercation with staff at a Tesco petrol station in Harrow, Essex. The 62-year-old actor, who plays Alfie Moon on the BBC soap, is scheduled to appear in court next month. The incident occurred after security staff challenged him about vaping on the forecourt.

What Happened at the Petrol Station

The confrontation unfolded late Wednesday evening when Richie arrived at the forecourt in a white Hyundai with an apparent flat tyre. Staff members approached the actor to inform him that vaping was prohibited in the area due to safety hazards. Video footage obtained by media outlets shows Richie, wearing a red baseball cap and casual clothing, disputing the restriction. When told the e-cigarette posed a risk at the location, Richie responded dismissively to the workers.

As the disagreement escalated, Richie became increasingly argumentative with both male and female staff members. He questioned why they were recording the exchange before stating he would film them in return. When directed toward the service station kiosk, a female employee identified herself as the manager. It was at this point that staff called police to report the incident.

Police Response and Arrest

Officers arrived at the scene and arrested Richie on suspicion of drink-driving. A source close to the incident noted the behaviour appeared unusual, particularly given the circumstances. The actor, whose real name is Shane Roche, is now facing formal charges and legal proceedings. He remains due to appear before a court in the coming weeks to address the allegations.
