Southwest Airlines Launches 25 New Nonstop Routes Across Domestic Network
Southwest Airlines is adding 25 new nonstop routes to its domestic network, with 12 markets representing entirely new service for the carrier.

Southwest Airlines is introducing 25 new nonstop routes and returning services, with more than half representing markets the carrier has never served before. Three of these routes have never operated nonstop by any airline, signaling an aggressive network expansion strategy across the United States.
Scope of the Expansion
The carrier disclosed the route additions in its latest schedule update. According to schedule analysis using Cirium Diio data, 12 of the 22 domestic markets being added (representing 55 percent) have not previously had Southwest nonstop service. These markets span multiple regions and include three routes with no prior nonstop history from any carrier: the pairing between Milwaukee and Panama City, and two routes from Nashville International Airport—to St. Thomas and to Wichita.
Nashville has become increasingly critical to Southwest's network strategy, contributing all three of these groundbreaking additions. The airport is developing as both a destination hub and a connection point within the broader Southwest system.
Notable Route Additions and Markets
Among the most significant additions is the ultra-short Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) link, operating twice daily. This market is designed primarily to serve connecting passengers, particularly those routing through BWI, one of Southwest's most heavily served airports.
Other key domestic routes launching include:
- Dallas Love Field to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (six weekly flights)
- Harry Reid International Airport (Las Vegas) to Boston (six weekly) and Miami (daily)
- New York LaGuardia to Orlando (three daily)
- Boise to Los Angeles International Airport (daily)
- Nashville to Des Moines and Wichita (daily service for both)
- Austin to Detroit and San Jose, Costa Rica (via expansion from Austin's operations)
Several routes are designated as seasonal or limited-frequency service, particularly those launched for spring break periods. Saturday-only or weekend-focused operations include Milwaukee to Panama City, Nashville to St. Thomas, Indianapolis to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, and Minneapolis to Fort Myers.
Strategic Network Context
Southwest's expansion comes as other major carriers announce network adjustments. Delta Air Lines has revealed plans for Los Angeles-Manila service, while United Airlines is relaunching four routes from Newark. JetBlue has also modified its operations to include Amsterdam. However, Southwest's strategy distinguishes itself through the introduction of completely new nonstop markets and historically unprecedented routes.
The Dallas Love Field expansion is particularly notable, as Southwest operates 18 of the airport's 20 gates and continues building its presence at its home base. The carrier previously launched Dallas-Seattle, Dallas-San Francisco, and Dallas-Oklahoma City service, making Love Field a focal point for continued domestic growth.
