State Department Expands Trump-Branded Passports to 27 Agencies Nationwide

The US State Department announced plans to make limited-edition passports bearing President Donald Trump's portrait available at 27 passport agencies nationwide starting in August. Previously available only at the Washington DC office, these commemorative documents mark the first time a sitting president has been featured on an active US passport.

Expansion and Availability

The State Department will distribute the "patriot passports" across multiple locations, with special one-day application events beginning on August 8. Initial rollout sites include passport offices in Centennial, Colorado; Chicago; Dallas; Detroit; New Orleans; New York; and Stamford, Connecticut. Additional offices will follow, though specific timelines have not yet been disclosed. Those seeking the commemorative version must apply in person on designated dates, while standard passport applications will occur on separate days.

The department estimates it will issue more than 250,000 of these special travel documents nationally. The design features Trump's portrait on an interior page alongside a gold-finished signature imprint. The cover displays gold-lettered text—"United States of America" at the top and "Passport" at the bottom—reversing the standard layout. A small gold laminate American flag with the number 250 surrounded by stars appears on the back cover.

The passport initiative represents one of several recent efforts to prominently feature Trump's name and likeness across US government documents and commemorative items. The US Mint has begun producing gold-finished coins celebrating the nation's founding, and there are ongoing efforts to place Trump's signature on new currency—another unprecedented move for a sitting president. These actions have drawn significant criticism from opponents who view them as departing from historical precedent. Currently, the only presidents depicted on standard US passports appear in a Mount Rushmore illustration alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.
