Steven Spielberg Casts Eve Hewson in Alien Conspiracy Thriller "Disclosure Day"
Eve Hewson has joined Steven Spielberg's upcoming science fiction film "Disclosure Day," where she plays Jane, a former nun.

Eve Hewson has been cast in Steven Spielberg's forthcoming science fiction thriller "Disclosure Day," a film centered on the exposure of decades-long governmental secrecy surrounding extraterrestrial encounters. Spielberg attributed the casting decision to his admiration for Hewson's performance in the Irish television series "Bad Sisters," where she portrayed the youngest member of the Garvey family.
In "Disclosure Day," Hewson portrays Jane, a former nun whose romantic partner Daniel—played by Josh O'Connor—becomes a whistleblower determined to release a comprehensive archive of visual evidence documenting extraterrestrial phenomena accumulated over the past 80 years. The film functions as a contemporary thriller that merges elements of chase narratives, 1970s suspense cinema, and technology-driven conspiracy storytelling.
Spielberg, who has previously directed "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977), "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982), and "War of the Worlds" (2005), returns to extraterrestrial subject matter with this original story. The screenplay was written by David Koepp, known for work on "Jurassic Park," "Mission: Impossible," and "Carlito's Way." Emily Blunt leads the ensemble cast as a Kansas City meteorologist who unexpectedly acquires extraordinary abilities.
O'Connor commented on his professional relationship with Hewson during filming, describing her as an exceptional performer and supportive colleague. Spielberg famously referred to both younger cast members as "the kids" on set, a designation O'Connor humorously recalled Spielberg also applied to Colin Firth in past productions. The director has previously worked with Hewson on "Bridge of Spies" (2015), where she played the daughter of Tom Hanks' character, establishing a working relationship that influenced her selection for the current project.
Spielberg articulated the thematic connection between "Disclosure Day" and his 1977 classic, explaining that while "Close Encounters" posed the question "Wouldn't it be wonderful if all of this turned out to be true?", his new film asks "Wouldn't it be wonderful for us to actually know that all of this is true?" This shift reflects contemporary concerns about institutional credibility, as public trust in established institutions remains lower than levels recorded in the post-Watergate 1970s.
