Three Men Arrested After 25-Year-Old Dies at Welsh Campsite Near Royal Welsh Show
Police described the incident as isolated and tragic, with no evidence of ongoing danger to the public ahead of the Royal Welsh Show's Monday opening.

A 25-year-old man has died following a medical emergency at a campsite near the Royal Welsh showground in Powys, with three men subsequently arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences. Police say the death remains unexplained and poses no wider public risk. The incident occurred at Penmaenau Farm in Llanelwedd on Saturday evening, hours before Wales' largest annual agricultural festival was set to commence.
Paramedics were dispatched to the campsite at approximately 22:30 on Saturday after receiving reports of a medical emergency. Despite their intervention, the 25-year-old could not be saved. Following the death, three men were taken into custody in connection with drug-related matters. Temporary Chief Superintendent Steve Davies characterised the event as a tragedy and extended sympathies to the deceased's family during what he described as an exceptionally difficult period for those affected.
Davies stated that authorities had found no evidence suggesting an ongoing threat to members of the public connected to the incident. He appealed for calm and cautioned against speculation regarding the circumstances, emphasising that police investigations remain active. The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society confirmed it would cooperate fully with law enforcement as their enquiries progressed. A spokesperson for Penmaenau Farm expressed deep sadness over the death and offered condolences to the victim's family and friends.
The timing of the incident—occurring just hours before the Royal Welsh Show's Monday opening—prompted reassurance from officials concerned about attendee safety. The society stated that established safety measures, including welfare services, medical provisions, and security initiatives through the Builth Wells Event Safety Group, remained in place. Rural Affairs and Sustainability Minister Llyr Gruffydd also offered condolences while urging the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed without interference.
