Three Men Arrested After High-Speed Car Chase Reaches 90mph in Northwest England

Three men from Warrington have been arrested following a dramatic high-speed car chase that ended in multiple collisions after reaching speeds of 90mph. The incident began around 1:10 a.m. when a Seat Leon failed to stop for Merseyside Police officers on Common Road in Newton-le-Willows, triggering a pursuit through residential streets and major roads.

The Pursuit

During the chase, the vehicle displayed reckless driving behavior across multiple routes. The car ran red lights, drove on the wrong side of the East Lancashire Road carriageway, and navigated a roundabout on Stanley Bank Way in the incorrect direction before heading toward the M6 motorway.

The pursuit resulted in a collision with a police vehicle, rendering it immobile. Despite this impact, the Seat Leon continued along Stanley Bank Way, where it struck two parked vehicles—a Mercedes-Benz and an Audi A5—on Penny Lane in Haydock. All three occupants were detained at the scene.

Arrests and Charges

• A 42-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, and drug driving.
• A 29-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and vehicle damage.
• A 26-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, and possession of cocaine, a Class A drug.
