Trump had contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino requesting a review of a red card issued to U.S. men's national soccer team forward Folarin Balogun on July 1. The disciplinary decision was later reversed on July 5. Despite the reversal, the American team exited the tournament following a 4-1 loss to Belgium on July 6.

During her appearance on the July 7 episode of a late-night show, Haddish addressed the situation, stating that people blamed Trump for the loss after he sought FIFA's assistance. She added a pointed critique, suggesting that "everything Trump touches dies" before making a physical joke about his hands.

The White House Response

When asked to comment on Haddish's remarks, White House spokesman David Ingle responded with a rhetorical question: "Who the hell is Tiffany Haddish?"
