Tinie Tempah Backs Grassroots Music Venues as Everywhere At Once Festival Launches Across UK

Rapper Tinie Tempah is headlining Everywhere At Once, a national festival showcasing live music across 500 grassroots venues in the United Kingdom. The multi-day event, supported by the Music Venue Trust and the National Lottery, runs across three days and features performances from over 1,200 acts. Tinie Tempah has called grassroots venues "institutions that need to be protected," warning that they face existential threats from closure and economic pressures.

Festival Details and Venue Impact

Everywhere At Once operates as a distributed festival spanning multiple weekends and hundreds of venues nationwide, filling the gap created by Glastonbury's scheduled fallow year. Tinie Tempah will perform at The Brook in Southampton on June 28, sharing the weekend with rockers Gene and singer-songwriter Harvey Jay Dodgson. The Southampton venue will also host additional programming from The Modules and The Guns n Roses Experience at The 1865.

The festival brings together grassroots promoters, artists, and local communities to highlight the cultural and economic value of independent music venues. Grassroots venues contribute approximately £500 million annually to the British economy, yet the sector faces severe challenges. According to Tinie Tempah's assessment, three grassroots venues close each month across the country, a trend he attributes to rising operational costs, changing consumer behaviour following COVID-19, and development pressures from residential construction projects.

Artist Perspective on Venue Importance

Tinie Tempah has emphasized the foundational role grassroots venues played in his own career development. He credits these spaces with allowing him to accumulate the experience necessary to eventually reach festival headline slots, large arena performances, and potentially stadium shows. The rapper argues that without access to grassroots venues for emerging artists to perform at regularly, the pipeline for developing international-calibre talent would be severely damaged.

"One of our biggest soft powers is the export of our music, from as far back as I can remember, from The Beatles, and even before, all the way up until now. And if we don't have these venues, it's going to be a lot more difficult to nurture talent and for talent to continue to develop to get to that world-class level."

Tinie Tempah's participation in Everywhere At Once aligns with broader industry efforts to support independent venues. The festival also features headliners including Becky Hill and Fatboy Slim, demonstrating established artists' commitment to championing grassroots music infrastructure alongside newer talent development.
