Routes connecting Manchester to York, Scarborough, Newcastle and Redcar Central were affected in both directions, with the Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street service planned to terminate and restart at Leeds. Services from Scarborough to Manchester Piccadilly and Redcar Central to Manchester Airport were diverted to terminate and restart at York, while Manchester Piccadilly to York services via Wakefield faced cancellation.

By shortly before 10:00 am, some lines began reopening, though Network Rail indicated disruptions would persist through lunchtime. Rail replacement transport was activated for certain onward journeys, with National Rail advising passengers to consult real-time journey planners for updated travel information. The operator did not provide a specific timeline for full service restoration across all affected routes.
