Trump Promotes Freedom Fuel Network Stations Selling Gas Below Market Cost Across Pennsylvania and New Jersey
Freedom Fuel Network stations near Philadelphia and southern New Jersey are selling gas for $3.47 per gallon, well below market rates.

A chain of approximately 25 gas stations operating in the Philadelphia area and southern New Jersey is selling fuel at $3.47 per gallon—significantly below both wholesale costs and the national average. President Trump has publicly endorsed the operation, yet industry experts and energy analysts have raised serious questions about how the business can operate profitably at such a steep discount.

The Business Model Under Scrutiny
The Freedom Fuel Network stations launched on July 3 in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with the White House stating the company is reducing profit margins to make fuel more affordable. However, according to petroleum industry data reviewed by multiple news organizations, selling gasoline at the current $3.47 price point would likely result in monthly losses exceeding $250,000 across all 25 participating locations.
Jeff Lenard, spokesperson for the National Association of Convenience Stores, which represents retailers responsible for approximately 80 percent of fuel sales nationwide, stated there is no viable way for traditional gas stations to operate profitably while charging below wholesale cost. "There's no way those stations could operate the way a traditional retailer would, without at least breaking even on fuel," Lenard told CNN. Industry analysts have described the business strategy as economically unfeasible.
Government Involvement and Ownership Questions
The White House has maintained that Freedom Fuel Network is a private company operating independently without federal funding or subsidies. A White House spokesperson told both CNN and ABC News: "The administration is not involved in the company, nor has the administration given the company any funding. There is no other entity or person subsidizing the lower gasoline costs."
Despite these assertions, public records remain sparse. A Delaware incorporation filing was located dated June 23, but no ownership information was publicly disclosed. Freedom Fuel Network has not responded to media inquiries regarding its operational structure or long-term business strategy. CNN has also been unable to confirm that all 25 advertised locations are currently operational.
Market Context and Price Comparisons
The promotion arrives amid elevated fuel prices driven by geopolitical tensions, with the national AAA average at $3.85 per gallon and Pennsylvania averaging $3.99. The Freedom Fuel price undercuts both figures by approximately 50 cents, making the stations significantly cheaper than nearby competitors. However, with only two dozen locations out of tens of thousands of gas stations nationwide offering these prices, availability remains extremely limited for most American drivers.
