Walmart Expands Rapid Delivery Service with Subway Restaurant Integration

Walmart has integrated Subway sandwich delivery into its Express Delivery platform, allowing customers to order meals either separately or alongside groceries with 30-minute service availability. The rollout begins across six U.S. states and will expand to approximately 1,400 locations by the end of summer, as the retail giant continues to expand its same-day service capabilities to counter rising competition in the rapid delivery sector.

Service Details and Availability

Customers in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas can now access Subway ordering through the Walmart app or website. The menu integration allows shoppers to customise meals and add them to their cart alongside standard grocery and household items, or place Subway orders independently. Orders placed through Walmart are routed directly to the point-of-sale system at each participating restaurant location.

Strategic Expansion in Quick Commerce

Walmart's restaurant delivery addition strengthens its Express Delivery platform, which launched in 2020 and now covers approximately 95 percent of U.S. households. The service includes 30-minute delivery in select markets, alongside three-hour options and early-morning or late-night windows. By bundling restaurant meals with grocery orders, Walmart creates incentives for larger basket sizes while positioning itself against emerging competitors. Amazon is simultaneously expanding its same-day perishables delivery service, including a competing 30-minute option expected to reach tens of millions of shoppers this year.

Subway franchises operating within Walmart locations have been required to participate in Walmart's third-party delivery programme since June 1, according to the company's franchise disclosure documents. This mandatory integration standardises the restaurant ordering experience across participating locations and ensures consistent fulfilment through Walmart's logistics network.
